Yemeni Siamese twins arrive in Riyadh amid hopes of separation surgery
Yemeni Siamese twins Mawaddah and Rahma arrived in Saudi Arabia in hopes that separation surgery can be performed successfully.
The couple landed on Sunday at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport from Aden accompanied by their parents.
The Yemeni family was brought to Riyadh by a Saudi medical evacuation plane with the support of coalition forces to bolster legitimacy in Yemen.
The twins were transferred upon arrival at King Abdullah Specialized Children’s Hospital (KASCH) to study their condition and consider conducting an operation to separate them.
If separation is possible, Siamese twins, who were born together in the lower chest and abdomen, will be treated.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabiah, head of the medical team and general supervisor of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief), thanked and thanked King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for “this noble humanitarian initiative, which is in appreciation of the difficult conditions facing fraternal Yemen ”.
Al-Rabiah stressed that the initiative embodies Saudi Arabia’s superior medical capabilities and great humanitarian sense towards those struggling in dozens of countries, expressing his thanks to the Saudi Embassy in Yemen and the “coalition forces. in support of legitimacy in Yemen who have contributed with tangible efforts ”in the transportation of the Yemeni twins.
Hudhayfah Numan, the father of the twins, thanked the Kingdom for the warm welcome and hospitality that has been given to him since his arrival in the Kingdom, expressing his great trust in God and then in the “Saudi medical team for their long experience in this field. “He prayed Almighty God to protect King Salman and reward him well.
On May 10, King Salman ordered the transfer of Mawaddah and Rahma to King Abdulaziz’s medical city in Riyadh for medical examinations.
Dr Aref Abu Hatem, information consultant at the Yemeni Embassy in Saudi Arabia, told Arab News that this major humanitarian initiative fits into a broader Saudi humanitarian context, sponsored by King Salman, Guardian of the Two Holy Mosques, and his crown prince Mohammed bin Salman. He said that humanitarian aid is at the forefront of the plans and activities of the Saudi leadership.
Abu Hatem added that this case of Siamese twins is nearly the fourth to arrive from Yemen in the past three years, all followed by complicated separations carried out by a highly trained specialist medical team led by Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabiah.
“The King Salman Center has provided thousands of medical grants, and they have been treated in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia or in hospitals outside the Kingdom contracted by the King Salman Center to serve and care for Yemenis in the light of this war. especially those affiliated with the national army and the popular resistance, “Abu Hatem said.
