76 people missing after sinking of migrant boat at Tunisia coast
Seventy-six people went missing after a crowded ship of migrants sank off Tunisia on Wednesday, the International Organization for Migration said, as numbers risking the dangerous crossing to Europe increase.
IOM said 24 people were rescued from the boat, which departed from the beaches of Zawara in Libya and sank off the coast of Sfax.
In recent months, dozens of people have drowned off the Tunisian coast, with an increase in the frequency of attempts to cross from Tunisia and Libya to Italy.
Hundreds of thousands of people have made the dangerous crossing of the Mediterranean in latest years.
