EU warned of Israeli aggression against Palestinians in Jerusalem
After a sequence of Israeli setters’ flag marches in the occupied Jerusalem, the EU delegation stated that the Israeli settlers’ racist chants and physical violations against Palestinians are threatening.
The EU delegation stated in a press release via Twitter that alarmed by the brutality unfolding yesterday in the West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem in and around the “flag march”. Appalling to see players engaging in racist chants and physical misuse against Palestinians.
They emphasized that actions of provocation by the Israeli settlers around the Haram al-Sharif must be avoided and the status quo has to be appreciated.
The EU has called Sunday for the security of the Palestinians to deter illegal settler violence.
“Last night, Israeli settlers injured several Palestinians, torched cars, and damaged commercial structures in different parts of the West Bank,” the EU Delegation to the Palestinians tweeted. “Rising levels of settler violence only fuel further tensions.”
The commission said that the Palestinians should be protected in accordance with Israel’s responsibilities under international law. “This is imperative now to prevent further violence ahead of Ramadan, Pesach, and Easter which coincide in April.”
The EU comments follow settler attacks, including the vandalism of vehicles, in the town of Turmus Aya, in the Ramallah district. The settlers punctured the tires of several vehicles and sprayed racist anti-Palestinian and anti-Arab graffiti on the walls of houses nearby.
According to the Palestinian Information Centre, eyewitnesses said on Monday that illegal settlers sneaked into the northern West Bank village of Jalud, near Nablus, and threw sharp objects at parked cars. At least four of the vehicles were set ablaze.
Official who monitors Israeli violations in the area, Ghassan Daghlas, said that settlers from the nearby settlement outpost of Adei Ad were behind the latest attack.
Meanwhile, another set of settlers escorted by Israeli soldiers approached a checkpoint near Shufa village in the southeast of Tulkarem and barred Palestinian vehicles from going through the area.
On Saturday the EU Delegation said that they are shocked by yet another killing of a Palestinian child: 15-year-old boy Zaid Ghniam was, south of Bethlehem, reportedly as a result of Israeli occupation fire.
They reported that In the month of May 2022 alone, 5 Palestinian kids died as a result of the continued excessive use of lethal force by IOF, bringing the total number in 2022 to 13. So far, not a single perpetrator has been brought to justice. Full accountability is necessary.
The EU emphasized that under international humanitarian law, Israel has a responsibility to stop violence against children and protect their rights.
“Children must be protected under all circumstances. This incident must be investigated and full accountability ensured,” EU said.
