Palestinian administrative inmate in Israel determined to win his freedom
Khalil Awawdeh, 40, from the southern West Bank town of Idna, has been on a hunger strike for three months calling for his freedom.
Awawdeh was arrested by Israeli forces on December 27, 2021, and slammed with a six-month administrative detention order.
To get his freedom without charge or trial and based on secret evidence, Awawdeh, married and a father of four girls the oldest is 9 years old, decided three months ago to go on hunger strike until he wins his freedom.
Now, he is declared to be suffering serious deterioration in his health due to his long fast.
Awawdeh is one of two Palestinian administrative prisoners in Israel who are currently on hunger strike to regain their freedom.
The other one is Raed Rayyan, 27, from the town of Beit Deqqo, northwest of Jerusalem, who has been on a hunger strike for 55 days today. He was jailed on November 3, 2021, and then placed under administrative detention for six months.
Israel’s widely condemned administrative arrest policy is intended to muzzle Palestinian political activists and curtail their freedom for as long as possible.
