Two Iranian aerospace officials “killed on mission”
Two Iranian aerospace officials, including a member of the Revolutionary Guard Corps, were “martyred while on a mission” in separate incidents within the country, the Fars news agency reported Monday.
Ali Kamani, a member of the aerospace division of the Guards, was “martyred” in the city of Khomein in central Iran’s Markazi province, Fars said, citing a statement by the Guards.
In a separate incident, Mohammad Abdoos, 33, an aerospace staff member, died Sunday in northern Semnan province on a “mission,” Fars added.
No further details were given about the men or the circumstances of their deaths.
According to the state news agency IRNA, two weeks ago, Colonel Ali Esmailzadeh, commander of the Guards’ external task force, the Quds Force, died “in an accident at his home”.
On May 22, guard colonel Sayyad Khodai, 50, was shot dead outside his home in the eastern Iranian capital after motorcycle attackers shot him five times.
The guards accused “Israel” of being behind Khodai’s high-profile assassination and swore revenge.
The New York Times later reported that Israel had told the United States it was behind Khodai’s killing. The US newspaper quoted an unnamed “intelligence officer informed on communications”.
Iranian state television claimed that Khodai was a member of the Quds Force and that he was “known” in Syria, where Iran acknowledged that it had deployed “military advisers”.
Guards described Khodai as a “sanctuary defender”, a term used for those working on behalf of Tehran in Syria or Iraq.
The Guards are designated as a terrorist group by the United States.
