How to treat leukemia?
A compound of Brazilian tree bark can be used to treat acute myeloid leukemia, after the development of a new technique that transfers it directly to the cancer cell.
According to the Canadian website Good News, scientists had discovered a compound that controlled the increase in the number of cancer cells in the bark of a tree named “Lapacho”, but the compound was found to be toxic to other cells.
The study’s author, Professor Goncalo Bernardes, said, “It is important to find new healing strategies for acute myeloid leukemia. There are many natural compounds of medical value that cannot be used as treatments due to toxicity and negative effects in healthy cells.”
His team modified the compound to prevent its negative effects until it reached the heart of the cancer cell.
