Israeli woman sentenced to death for this charge
Israeli women, who live in UAE make problems. An Israeli woman was sentenced to death by a court in the United Arab Emirates after she was discovered guilty of having 500 grams of cocaine. The woman called by Israeli media 43-year-old Fidaa Kiwan is demanding the verdict.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry said in a press statement, “The case is known and we are handling it through the consular service and our representatives in the Emirates.” It refused to comment further.
Israeli media said that Kiwan, who holds a photography studio in Haifa in northern Israel (occupied Palestine), came to Dubai for work about a year ago.
She was captured a week later after police found the cocaine in the flat she was waiting in. Kiwan reportedly reasoned the drugs weren’t hers.
CNN arrived at the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for analysis.
Death punishments are rarely carried out in the UAE. Ziv Agmon, an Israeli lawyer specializing in Emirati rule, who isn’t affected in this case, told CNN he wished the UAE’s courts to commute the sentence.
He said that there is no legal repatriation deal between the UAE and Israel.
The structure of diplomatic links between Israel and the UAE, as part of the Abraham Accords signed in 2020, has led to a wave in Israeli tourists to the UAE.
Not all of them have been visitors and businesspeople. “Our Dubai office witnessed a rise in illegal claims that Israeli residents are part of,” said Agmon.
“Israelis have to understand that the legal authorities in Dubai treat drug cases seriously.”
