Kushner reveals he had cancer while working in the White House
Jared Kushner, a former top assistant to former US President Donald Trump and his daughter-in-law Ivanka, said in a biography published next month that he had developed thyroid cancer in 2019.
According to excerpts from the book seen by Reuters, Kushner wrote that White House physician Sean Conley told him privately on US Air Force One, while Trump was heading to Texas, that the results of his examinations at Walter Reed Medical Center showed that he had cancer and that they “needed to schedule an operation immediately.”
Kushner had surgery just before Thanksgiving that year and organized to keep his cancer order secret despite his work at the White House, where news leaks were common at the time. The book’s excerpts were first published in The New York Times.
Unbeknownst to Kushner, Trump was conscious of his brother-in-law’s cancer, saying in the book, “The day before surgery, Trump called me to the Oval Office and asked his team to close the door, and then asked,” Are you worried about surgery? ”
Kushner asked, “How did you know?”
Kushner quoted Trump as saying, “I’m the president… I know everything. I understand you want to keep things like this a secret. I also want to keep such things to myself. You’ll be fine. do not worry about anything in relation to work”.
Kushner announced he was diagnosed with the disease in a memoir due to be published on August 23.
Kushner said a large part of the thyroid had been removed in surgery, which had been held during tense talks with China over a trade deal.
Kushner was one of the main negotiators in the normalization talks brokered by the United States between Israel and a number of Arab states in 2020, and he now runs the global investment company Avenity Partners and has moved away from politics for the time being.
