NFL: Latest league news from Monday, July 25
The Carolina Panthers and Matt Corral decided to agree to terms on the quarterback’s four-year rookie agreement, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport said on Monday, per an origin informed of the situation. The Panthers later officially revealed the news.
The contract gets the third-round pick under agreement before the Panthers kick off sports camp this week.
Carolina changed up into the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft to choose the Ole Miss signal-caller. In two seasons as a full-time starter, Corral reached the 3,300-yard passing impact in each campaign.
He gained second-team All-SEC honors in 2021. In 2020, he directed the FBS with 384.3 total yards per game (passing and rushing). With quick motivation and good athleticism, Corral is ideal for the RPO game and owns the rushing ability.
With the Panthers set to hold a sports camp battle between incumbent Sam Darnold and newly developed Baker Mayfield, Corral is poised to see third-team reps in camp. Barring injuries, the rookie isn’t anticipated to see the field much, if at all, this season, as he learns the offense behind Mayfield and Darnold.
Elsewhere for the Panthers, coach Matt Rhule told journalists Monday that linebacker Shaq Thompson would begin training camp on the physically unable to accomplish list following a knee cleanup. However, Rhule didn’t concern about the 28-year-old missing the start of camp, noting Thompson should be out a pair of weeks as he gets fully healthy.
Thompson, like all players opening camp on the active/PUP list, is suitable to be started at any time before the season.

The Atlanta Falcons officially put defensive lineman Eddie Goldman on the reserve/retired list, per the league transaction wire. Initial news of Goldman intending to exit was reported on Tuesday.

Injuries
Cincinnati Bengals coach Zac Taylor told the media Monday that offensive tackle La’el Collins is currently negotiating with a back issue that has troubled him in the past. Collins was put on the non-football injury list on Saturday ahead of the opening of sports camp.
Jacksonville Jaguars leader coach Doug Pederson told journalists that running back James Robinson (Achilles) would not begin training camp on the team’s PUP list.
The Kansas City Chiefs reported Monday they have placed vast receiver Justyn Ross (foot) on the wounded reserve. Ross was signed as an undrafted free agent and recently underwent surgery, coach Andy Reid said in a news conference Friday. The procedure was done to edit things up after having a prior surgery to address a foot injury while at Clemson last fall.
Ross going on IR now essentially spells the end of his season before it even starts, per NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero, and Mike Garafolo.
Miami Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert asserted in a tweet that he has been removed to back for training camp after having knee surgery during the 2021 season.
Visits
The Baltimore Ravens had workouts for veteran running backs Wayne Gallman and Corey Clement, Pelissero said. Baltimore is expected to mark Clement, but a contract is still being worked out.
The Carolina Panthers are hosting free agent defensive tackle Danny Shelton for a visit, Rapoport said.
The New York Giants worked out a group of players, including tight end Eric Ebron, per Pelissero.
