Berlusconi returns today to Calcio to clone the new Milan
Businessman and former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi returned to Serie A football from the gate of humble Monza, after building Milan’s glory for 3 decades.
The billionaire, 85, was clear in his goals when, immediately after Monza’s rise to first class for the first time in his history, he said, “Do you know? We want to take the league title and go to the Champions League. ”
To be sure, talking about going to the Champions League is still too early, and the newcomer should even gain the experience of playing among the adults and dealing with each game individually in his first lights league campaign, forming with the meeting he gathers on Saturday in the opening phase with Turin.
Monza, bought by Berlusconi in 2018, rose to the top flight after outscoring Pisa in the qualification supplement to “Serie A.”
After winning at home 2-1, Monza secured the first ascent after a dramatic 4-3 second leg after the extension (2-3 after the expiration of the original time) at Pisa Stadium, under the sight of Berlusconi, who led Milan to his golden reign and presided over it between 1986 and 2017 and made him one of European football’s most prominent giants before selling it.
Berlusconi said, “This is great happiness, Monza was founded in 1912 and did not qualify for Seri A. We succeeded today and Monza owns a team he deserves and next season will meet Serie A. ”
Berlusconi Monza, a year after being sold by Milan, who had become a local and continental giant in his state, bought the Champions League title five times and the domestic league eight times.
Monza, close to Milan, was still in the third tier when Berlusconi bought it in 2018 for an estimated $3.4 million deal.
He rose to the second tier (Siri B) in 2020. Last year he failed to climb into the elite league for losing the play-off, despite a strong signing policy that saw Ghanaian Kevin-Prince Boateng and troublesome striker Mario Balotelli included.
Berlusconi was given management of the club by his right hand in Milan’s successful years, 77-year-old Adriano Galliani.
He also signed former Milan and Monza player Jovani Struba, 54, who led Crotone to the top flight in 2020.
