Algeria: Death toll from fires reaches 37
The Civil Protection in Algeria announced that the death toll from the fires in El Tarf has risen to 37, including 11 children and six women.
According to (Sky News), Algerian Interior Minister Kamal Beljoud told state television: “The outbreak of fires at one time in the eastern states opens question marks, and investigations are currently underway to find out the causes.”
For his part, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune offered condolences to the families of the victims of the fires that broke out in a number of eastern provinces.
Tebboune stressed that the authorities were fully alert and harnessed all possibilities to put out the fires while taking care of those affected.
Pictures taken in the Souk Harras border area with Tunisia showed citizens fleeing their homes amid the flames.
