3 children killed by landmine explosion in central Yemen
A local non-governmental organization said on Saturday that three Yemeni children were killed in a landmine explosion in the center of al-Bayda governorate.
Yemeni mine records said in a statement that the children were killed by an explosive device explosion while grazing sheep in the Al-Zahir area.
The NGO did not blame any group for the deaths.
The UN estimates that more than two million landmines have been planted throughout war-torn Yemen.
Yemen’s warring rivals agreed last month to extend the U. N.-brokered truce for two months. Under the truce reached on April 2, all military operations ceased. The agreement also allowed commercial flights to operate from the rebel-held Sana’a airport in the capital.
Yemen has been experiencing violence and instability since September 2014, when Houthi rebels allied with Iran seized a large part of the country, including the capital Sanaa.
A Saudi-led coalition entered the war in early 2015 to restore the government to power.
The eight-year-old conflict has caused one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, with millions suffering from hunger.
