US imposes sanctions on entities related to Hamas … Details
The US Treasury Department on Tuesday said that the United States added four individuals and six entities connected to Hamas to its sanctions list.
“On Tuesday, the United States imposed sanctions on a Hamas financial official and a network of financial intermediaries and companies that generate revenue for the Palestinian armed group,” the US Treasury said in a statement.
The sanctions target the Hamas investment office, which holds assets valued at least $500 million, including companies operating in Sudan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Algeria and the United Arab Emirates.
“Hamas sent massive amounts of revenue through its secretive investment portfolio, while Gaza faces harsh living and economic conditions,” said Elizabeth Rosenberg, Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism Financing and Financial Crimes.
The Treasury Department stated, “The official in Hamas listed on the sanctions list is Abdullah Yousef Faisal Sabri, a Jordanian national residing in Kuwait and an accountant who has worked in the Ministry of Finance of Hamas for several years”.
The ministry added, “The companies subject to the sanctions include the Sudan-based Agrojet Holding Company, the Algeria-based Cedar Company, the UAE-based Etqan Real Estate Company, the Turkey-based Trend GU Company, and the Saudi Anda Company.
Besides, the US Treasury imposed, on Thursday May 19, 2022, new sanctions against individuals and entities related to the Lebanese “Hezbollah” group, which Washington designates as a “terrorist organization”.
The ministry said in a statement on its website that the OFAC’s Office of Foreign Assets Control today imposed sanctions on 6 people of Lebanese nationality, and 8 entities, all of them related to Hezbollah’s activities.
