Head of Arab League worried about riots in Libya
Secretary General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit expressed concern over the clashes between armed groups in the Libyan capital Tripoli on Friday and Saturday.
He urged all parties to preserve and adhere to a ceasefire agreement that includes the withdrawal of foreign mercenaries and fighters from the country.
Aboul Gheit warned against the return of the use of arms in Libya, which, according to him, did not benefit either side, and resulted in bloodshed and waste of the country’s resources. He also called for national elections to be held “as soon as possible”.
