Since Russia’s invasion about five weeks ago, the number of Ukrainians fleeing the nation has surpassed 4 million, equaling one-tenth of the former Soviet republic’s prewar population.
More than half of the country’s war refugees have fled to Poland, which now has 2.3 million refugees, according to figures from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
The great majority have sought refuge in the European Union, with Poles, Romanians, Hungarians, and Slovakia bearing the brunt of the load.
A little more than 350,000 people have migrated to Russia.
