Nutrition advisor Dr., Munira Fatani, explained the idea of beginning Ramdan Iftar with dates and not water because water only kills thirst, but it does not prepare the stomach to start eating breakfast.
Dates work on the speed of balancing blood sugar, the breakfast should start with three passing beads, and then have a glass of water then a little soup, after prayer can complete breakfast, taking care to eat a salad.

She continued that eating dates at the start of Iftar Ramadan provides the body with a large proportion of sugary substances so that the symptoms of hypoglycemia go away and the body activates.
She said, “The lack of food in the stomach and intestines makes them able to absorb these simple sugary substances very quickly, containing dates and wet sugars in simple chemical form also makes digestion very easy blood sugar”.

It added that Ramadan Iftar helped reduce the risk of heart disease, and also benefits of obtaining antioxidants, and it provides many antioxidants, which have a number of health benefits, including reducing the risk of many diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, macular atrophy, and some cancers.
Another health benefit of dates in Ramadan Iftar
One of the health benefits of dates was to provide with important nutrients, eating 4 dates (about 100 grams) provides 27% of the recommended daily amount of fiber and 20% of the recommended daily amount of potassium.
In addition, taking dates helps prevent constipation, since it contains dietary fiber, which benefits digestive health by preventing constipation, and enhances regular bowel movements.
Dr. Munira concluded that Ramdan Iftar with dates breaks down the severity of fasting hunger, which helps him not to eat a large amount of food at breakfast and also provides energy, in the form of sugars.
