Lapid visits Turkey amid security jitters
The statement said Lapid will meet with Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu on his Thursday trip, who visited Israel last month to encourage broader economic cooperation.
Israel warned its citizens against traveling to Turkey, citing suspected assassinations or kidnapping plots by Iran, which vowed to avenge the May 22 assassination of a Revolutionary Guards colonel in Tehran that it attributed to agents Israelis.
Iran did not comment on the Israeli travel notice, which currently focuses on Istanbul. In a June 13 statement that did not mention any other country, the Turkish Foreign Ministry alluded to the warning and said it was a safe country with “cooperation mechanisms for the battle with terrorism”.
