Russian forces seize Ukrainian passports in Crimea
Russian military personnel in the southern Ukrainian province of Kherson discovered an archive containing Ukrainian passport data, which could indicate the naturalization of Ukrainian security officials in Russia’s Crimean peninsula.
Former State Duma deputy Ruslan Balbek told RIA Novosti that work is being done to reveal the names of Russian officials working on the peninsula who have illegally obtained Ukrainian citizenship.
According to Balbek, the presence of a biometric passport in the possession of a Russian Civil Service official is a powerful “paper” in the hands of Ukraine’s security service for intimidation and recruitment.
According to the data, some officials in Crimea obtained Ukrainian passports without leaving the peninsula’s territory, indicating “the interest of Ukrainian intelligence in the functioning of corruption mechanisms of this kind,” he said.
Balbek referred to the alleged holders of Ukrainian citizenship as criminals working for the enemy.
They have no place in Russian state institutions and must be investigated to ensure that they are not working for Ukrainian security.
