UK inflation records 40-year high
UK inflation rose faster than expected in June, reaching 9.4% yui, the highest rise since February 1982, according to data released by the Office for National Statistics on Wednesday.
The CPI was likely to rise 9.3% in June compared to 9.1% in May. The UK Statistics Office said prices of automobile fuel and foodstuffs were the biggest contributors to the change.
According to their figures, the annual rise in traffic was 15.2%. Prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages rose 9.8% year-on-year, the most since March 2009.
Last month, the Bank of England forecast inflation to peak at 11% in the autumn, reportedly planning a half-point increase in August after a quarter-point rise in June.
