Awaited call between Biden and Xi this week, will it come true??
US President Joe Biden said Monday that he may hold a phone conversation with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping this week, but he is waiting for confirmation.
Asked if the long-awaited phone call would happen this week, Biden told reporters, “That’s what I expect, but I’ll tell you when that’s scheduled.”
US Speaker Nancy Pelosi reportedly plans to visit Taiwan next month, but the official has not confirmed this.
Last week, Biden unusually suggested that the military believed this visit was “not a good idea.”
The US administration fears that China will not distinguish between the legislative arm of the state and the executive arm, while Beijing considers the announced US support for Taiwan as support for a solemn representation of the island’s independence, which it considers an integral part of its territory.
