How does diabetes affect the eyes???
Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by high levels of glucose in the blood beyond the normal range, and this disease may lead to health problems that affect the eyes and vision.
And Dr. Anas Al-Faraj, an endocrinologist and diabetes specialist, at the European Medical Center in Moscow, revealed that diabetes threatens the eyes and vision.
The specialist, in an interview with Gazeta.Ru, notes that the danger threatens the tiny blood vessels responsible for supplying blood to the eyes.
He says, “When the level of sugar in the blood rises, it becomes toxic to the body. This directly affects the blood vessels, where they begin to gradually become damaged. First and foremost, the tiny blood vessels in the eyes and kidneys are damaged.” According to Russia Today.
According to him, if a person has deviations in the microvascular in the eyes, then this indicates that the disease has reached an advanced stage. Because “the eyes are a mirror of the health of a person with diabetes.”
The specialist stresses that vision can be damaged by diabetes, but this usually appears in the advanced stages of the disease. Therefore, it is very important to start treatment early and in time and to follow the recommendations and advice of the doctor.
