A Canadian study reported that tea bags, which we mix with hot water to extract tea, may contain billions of harmful plastic particles.
Researchers from the McGill University of Canada analyzed the water from the tea bag was mixed and found that one bag could produce about 11 billion plastic particles.
The study clarified that this amount is significantly higher than the amount of plastic that can be found in other foods and drinks.”
Plastic molecules contain chemicals harmful to human health, as they can affect hormones and cause serious diseases.
Teabags are mostly made from natural fibers, but some companies make them from plastic, which may be the most harmful plastic molecules.
According to Metro, which first published the study, daily tea bags are not really a concern because the problem lies in luxury tea bags that come in the form of triangles.
It concluded that daily English breakfast tea bags are probably made of paper, so it’s not a big problem, but watch out for triangle bags, usually made of plastic.
