American teachers syndicate to protect teachers of Palestinian cause
The General Conference of the American Teachers’ Union voted in favor of a resolution giving protection and support to teachers who teach or educate the public about the Palestinian cause.
Decision No. 13 authorized by the Syndicate’s General Conference held in Chicago on the 3rd and 6th of this month states that the Syndicate will allow support to every teacher who educates about the history and issues of the Palestinian people by providing a specific program to protect teachers when they are attacked.
60% of the conference members voted in favor of the decision, which is an implicit acknowledgment by the union that American teachers who support the Palestinian right have been subjected to multiple attacks requiring protection.
The conference voted to refer another resolution to the union’s executive committee, proposing that teachers and the public be educated about the Palestinian situation and Israeli apartheid policies and use sources such as the Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch reports as references.
On the other hand, a third item was voted against, the ninth item on the agenda, which provides for the Syndicate’s support and promotion of rights and the Palestinian narrative of events, and the provision of resources to teach it to students to educate about it.
In this context, the American Jewish Journalists Syndicate considered the three decisions issued by the American Teachers Syndicate that it fuels what it called “anti-Semitism” and made schools an unsafe environment for Jewish teachers and students.
It is noteworthy that groups connected to the Israeli lobby in the United States of America have pushed conference participants to vote against these rulings by launching a public relations effort and communicating with them.
Supporters of the Palestinian right have submitted resolutions supporting the Palestinian right and a boycott of “Israel” to the syndicate conferences during the previous 10 years. This is the first time that a pro-Palestinian rights resolution has been approved.
It is significant that the National American Teachers’ Union, which has more than three million teachers as members, is the biggest union in the United States.
