Blinken calls on Gantz for accountability in Abu Akleh’s killing
The US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken talked on Friday, July 30, with Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz and presented the sad killing of Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh and the demand for accountability.
The family of Abu Akleh failed to reserve a United States pledge to establish a criminal probe into her death, nor were they able to meet with US President Joe Biden during the week they consumed supporting on her behalf in Washington, DC.
“The Biden administration, beyond expressions of sympathy and sadness, did little to press for justice for a journalist – and a US citizen,” her niece Lina said via Twitter account Friday.
Abu Akleh’s brother Tony, along with her niece Lina and nephew Victor, spent the week in the country’s capital, where they met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken as well as Congressional partners.
Shireen, a veteran Al Jazeera journalist, was murdered on May 11 while covering an Israeli occupation invasion in Jenin. The Palestinian Authority and her family accused Israeli occupation forces of deliberately killing her.
