Difference between bruises types, do it indicates blood problems?
The Russian doctor, Alexander Myasnikov, revealed the differences between the bruises that appear on the skin, noting that some of them may indicate blood problems.Ad spaceAnd according to the “Russia Today” website, Myasnikov indicated that the presence of several bruises on the body, may indicate problems with platelets.
Bruises are different
As a rule, a person does not pay attention to blows and minor injuries that can eventually cause bruises.
But the appearance of bruises suddenly and without reason, may indicate health problems. For example, large bruises may indicate problems with blood clotting and low blood platelets.
He added: “Patients with liver disease have a decrease in not only the plasma factors in blood clotting, but also cellular factors, so they suffer from a low amount of blood platelets, so any slight blow can cause the appearance of bruises on the skin.
The platelet problem may be due to medication or food
Platelets, cells that play an important role in the process of blood clotting. These platelets originate in the bone marrow and protect the body from bleeding, and they react immediately when a vessel is damaged, forming a blood clot.
The number of these platelets in normal conditions ranges from 150,000 to 400,000 cells in 1 μl.
He said: “When its number is between 50-149 thousand, doctors consider it thrombocytopenia.
“When it is less than 50 thousand, it is fraught with bleeding,” he added: “Thrombocytopenia can occur as a result of taking certain medications over a long period (conventional aspirin, antibiotics – ampicillin and cyclosporine) and even anticonvulsants. In addition to medications, alcohol also causes thrombocytopenia.”
The doctor recommended that a blood test be performed to determine the amount of blood platelets, and in the event of a decrease in the number of platelets, the doctor prescribes the necessary medication, as well as changing the lifestyle, quitting smoking and drinking alcohol, and adding foodstuffs rich in vitamin K to the diet.
A bruise may be a symptom of a serious illness
Myasnikov pointed out that there are autoimmune diseases, in which antibodies lose the ability to distinguish between “enemy and friend”, and begin to “eat” platelets.
This occurs in the case of liver diseases and viral infections, such as Epstein-Barr virus, HIV, hepatitis B and C, as well as with various types of tumors.
He said: “In this case, we must understand whether this is a temporary phenomenon as a result of a bacterial infection, or it is a mechanism that can lead to bleeding, and in the case of “Covid-19” disease, to prevent blood clots, people take blood-thinning drugs (antibiotics), (thrombosis), and because of the disease, the number of platelets decreases, and they die from bleeding in the brain.
