German expert: Russian gas is just enough for two years!
Director of the German Economic Institute in Cologne, Mikhail Hutter, said in a press statement on Sunday that Germany could not dispense with Russian gas for at least two more years.
German newspaper Handelsblatt said, “We will rely on Russian gas for at least two more years, it is illusory to believe that the state can support entire sectors for a long time through subsidies worth billions of euros and short-term work (in the event of the abandonment of Russian gas).”
Sebastian Mats reported that a ban on the supply of Russian gas would lead to the suspension of certain companies and sectors of the economy.
He added, “Only one-third of the short-term supply of Russian gas to Germany can be replaced by liquefied gas from other parts of the world.”
Days ago, German Finance Minister Christian Lindner emphasized that his country could not distribute Russian gas now and that sanctions against Moscow in this sector would harm Europe more than Russia.
