Mother sues Facebook for her daughter!!!
An American woman sued Meta, Facebook’s parent company, over her daughter’s addiction to this digital platform.
The woman said that her daughter had become addicted to Facebook since she was seven years old, resulting in an eating disorder, as well as becoming self-harming because of her addiction and problematic use of the digital platform, according to the British Daily Mail.
Mother Cecilia Teich, who lives in the U.S. state of Colorado, said her daughter, whom she had literally symbolized “R”. In the court papers, F is now 13 years old.
The girl child’s addiction to the site reduced her level of interest in the rest of the activities, and her sleep was disrupted by “Ongoing alerts” from the application.
According to the Mayo Clinic, self-harm is a symptom of personal disorders, where a human being deliberately cuts his body, such as biting and burning, but it does not reach the stage of suicide, and a person feels some kind of relief after this act and is later followed by guilt and shame.
The mother confirmed that her daughter remains awake overnight to follow back-to-back alerts from Facebook.
The mother noted that teenagers were more likely than others to use networking sites, and said that she and her daughter were unaware of the damage caused by the extensive use of Facebook.
This development comes after internal papers in Meta revealed their knowledge of the damage they cause to young people.
The rules of procedure on Facebook are that it is a platform available to those aged 13 and over, and it is not clear what actions if any mother has taken to reduce her daughter’s addiction to the platform.
This is not the first time that media platforms have been criticized for their adolescent addiction. Since July, 12 lawsuits have been filed against Meta, but none have yet reached a conclusion.
