Palestinian inmate fights death in light of his hunger strike for 144 days

The Palestinian detainee, Khalil Awawda, (40 years), from the village of Idna, west of Hebron, has continued his hunger strike for 144 days, in rejection of his ongoing administrative arrest, amid serious health conditions.

The Prisoner’s Club warned Wednesday, August 03, 2022, that the inmate, Awawda, faces the danger of death in the Ramle jail clinic, in light of the lack of serious solutions to date regarding his case.

They demonstrated that he suffers from painful aches in the joints, headaches, strong dizziness, and blurred vision, is unable to walk, and shifts in a wheelchair.

They added that the occupation jail administration deliberately transfers Awawda repeatedly to civilian hospitals, declaring that he experiences medical examinations, but every time he is returned without completing them, on the pretext that he has not reached the location of the danger.

It is noteworthy that the inmate, Awawda, resumed his strike on 2/7/2022, after breaking it earlier after 111 days of the strike, based on promises to release him, but the occupation reneged on its promise, and administered a new administrative arrest order against him for a duration of four months, noting that He has been detained since December 27, 2021, when the occupation issued an administrative arrest order against him for a period of six months, and his detention order was continued for the second time for a period of four months, and it was confirmed for the whole time.

A requested hearing was recently held for him, and no judgment was published.
