Smart Japanese glasses to help deaf people enjoy cinema
Japanese cinemas launched glasses showing film translations, scripts describing scenes, and sound effects on hearing impaired lenses to help them enjoy their time watching movies.
“We hope that glasses will provide an opportunity for everyone to enjoy watching movies.”
Users of glasses first need to download a dedicated smartphone app for data about the translations of the film they will see, and then connect the glasses to their smartphones, according to Gigi Press.
A small microphone attachment captures the sounds of movies, and translations accompanying the film scene are displayed on glasses lenses.
The organization, based in Tokyo, launched a project to loan translation glasses to cinemas across Japan in January 2020. Glasses are now available in 85 cinema roles.
