The development of the multi-role supersonic fighter bomber “Su-34” to replace the old “Su-24” (flying tank) bomber began in the early 1990s.
By 2014, the aircraft had entered service with the Russian Air-Space Force. The “Su-34” is tasked with striking enemy targets in its operational and tactical depth against the backdrop of radio-electronic jamming and the work of its air defenses, it can fly at all hours of the day and night, as well as in adverse weather conditions.
The Su-34 is equipped with a sighting device that allows the pilot to aim “air-to-surface” missiles of the “Kha-29L” type, as well as laser-guided bombs of the “Kap-500L” and “Kap -1500L” types. Furthermore, the “Su-34” can be refueled with the most fuel in the tactical aircraft fleet, allowing it to fly long distances (up to 4,500 km) without refueling.
On Thursday, March 24, the Russian Ministry of Defense released a video clip showing Russian Su-34 fighter-bombers destroying Ukrainian army ammunition depots. In addition, the video included an intriguing shot of the Z symbol drawn in Ukrainian airspace.
