The dream of a New Zealand couple who thinks they discovered the world’s largest potato on their small farm has been shattered after Guinness World Records analyzed the sample to find that it is a pumpkin tuber and not a potato.
The couple had sent pictures and samples of the potato they found in their home to the Guinness Book of Records for scientific testing, the encyclopedia responded months later that the sample sent was a tuber of a type of pumpkin and did not belong to the category of potatoes so that the couple is excluded from obtaining a record Entitles their potato to win.
“It definitely tastes like a potato,” said Colin Craig Brown, who discovered the tuber when he was gardening with his wife, Donna.
The couple named the tuber Doug after the tuber they discovered, and they trusted the idea of entering it into the Guinness Book of Records.
