Abramovich put the west Londoners up for sale on March 2, just days before his assets were frozen by the UK government over alleged links to Russian President Vladimir Putin and in response to Russia’s military operation in Ukraine.
After a consortium led by LA Dodgers owner Todd Boehly turned down other offers and eventually got the green light for a £4.25 billion ($5.4 billion) takeover, Abramovich is turning English football to almost left for two decades at Stamford Bridge with 21 trophies won since taking office in 2003.

Abramovich said owning Chelsea comes with it “great responsibility”as the Russian billionaire claimed to have witnessed firsthand what he can achieve and revealed his goal was to ensure Boehly has a mindset that enables the success of both the men’s and women’s teams while supporting other key aspects of the club like its developed academy and the “Vital Work” the Chelsea Foundation.
Abramovich expressed that his search for a worthy new owner is coming to an end “successful graduation” was delighted and wished Boehly and his consortium every success on and off the pitch.
The 55-year-old stressed that it has been a lifetime honor to be part of the club and thanked his players, staff and of course the fans “for these incredible years”.
He then signed by saying he was proud of it “our common successes”millions of people “will now benefit from the newly established charitable foundation”with all profits from the sale going to the victims of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
“This is the legacy we created together,” concluded Abramovich.
Abramovich is leaving Chelsea with the club that has won all the major trophies and his last major success came in early 2022 with their first triumph at the Club World Cup against Palmeiras in Abu Dhabi.
