Hamas to hack Israeli soldiers’ phones
Hamas tried to establish spyware on the cellular phones of Israeli soldiers via fake social media accounts, on Monday the Israel Occupation Forces said.
It added that Hamas would try to start chats with Israeli forces on different issues, from soccer to dating, the IOF reported in a report on its website. Once contact was completed, the operators of the accounts would try to persuade the soldiers to download a virus to their phones, hidden as a “puzzle game.”
“These profiles got in touch with service personnel in order to create connections that would allow them to take the next step and lure them into downloading the game application, which turned out to be a malicious attack tool,” stated a senior officer in Military Intelligence’s Security Branch.
In the last years, Hamas made duplicated steps to find methods to assemble military information on the IOF. These measures included trying to develop romantic ties with soldiers using fake social profiles of young women.
The IOF has been working with other security tools to foil these steps, it stated. The IOF General Staff recently extended a monitoring center in the military’s Information Security Branch. The center is accountable for noticing and revealing a combination of dangers against IOF soldiers and support, employing advanced technological devices in the cyber discipline.
