Tanzania announces mysterious disease killed people
The Tanzanian authorities announced on Thursday that they have sent a team of doctors and health experts to the southeast of the country to investigate a mysterious disease that killed three people.
The disease, whose symptoms include nosebleeds, fever, headache and fatigue, was detected in the Lindi region, Aivilo Sechaloy, chief medical officer of the government, said in a statement on Wednesday.
“The government formed a team of experts who are still investigating this unknown disease,” he added, calling on residents to calm down.
He revealed that 13 people had the disease, three of whom died, according to “AFP”.
Sichaloy explained that the results of the patients’ test revealed that they were not infected with Ebola, Marburg or Covid-19 viruses.
Besides, Ghana announced last week that it had detected two cases of Marburg virus, which causes hemorrhagic fever that may be fatal, like Ebola.
At Tuesday’s meeting, Tanzanian President Samia Solho Hassan said the “strange” disease discovered in Linde may be caused by the “increasing mixing” of humans and animals due to the deteriorating environmental situation.
