Judaization: Israel to Build Bridge Linking Silwan to Old City of Jerusalem
Israeli occupation municipality, in cooperation with an Israeli engineering company, has recently started working on building a 200-meter-long bridge over the Palestinian lands of Wadi Al-Rababa neighborhood in Silwan town, south of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Israeli occupation authorities are planning to build a bridge between a visitor center in Silwan and the Old City to facilitate the settlers’ incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Several years ago, the Israeli occupation municipality and the so-called “Nature Authority” began excavations beneath the lands of Wadi al-Rababa in Silwan, but Palestinian owners confronted and prevented them from completing the digging.
However, the occupation municipality approved the start of implementing the Judaization project in 2020, after rejecting all the petitions submitted by the Palestinian owners of the lands and institutions in Silwan.
Member of the Homes Defence Committee in Silwan, Fakhri Abu Diab, reported that the occupation municipality has already begun excavation, creating the foundations and columns of the bridge that will be erected over the lands of Wadi al-Rababa.
He added that the Israeli occupation forces seized thousands of acres of the Palestinian lands, planted with ancient trees, in Wadi al-Rababa, in order to build the bridge.
Over the past years, Israeli occupation authorities prevented the people of Wadi al-Rababa from accessing their lands or planting them. Meanwhile, they allow Israeli settlers and troops to carry out excavations in the area in favor of building the bridge.
