Israel to receive new generation of Merkava 5 Barak tanks
Israeli army in 2023 will begin to receive a new generation of battle tanks called Merkava 5 Barak.
The next year, Merkava 5 Barak tanks will have service with the Israel Defense Forces Armored Corps.
They are equipped with the Trophy active protection system against anti-tank rockets systems, as well as night and day vision cameras.
A new fire control system has been progressed for the Merkava 5 Barak, enabling it to aim and destroy enemy aims in the shortest possible time.
The Merkava 5 Barak will also feature a new electronic warfare defense system.
It replaces the Merkava 4. They, too, use the Trophy active protection system. The IOF has been operating the Merkava 4 for longer than originally planned, as production of the Merkava 5 Barak has been delayed by two years due to a shortage of funds.
