Musk calls for an extension of Twitter’s trial period until examines his “new weapon”
Elon Musk’s lawyer told the judge in charge of the trial over his attempt to back down from a $44 billion deal to buy Twitter that the trial must be postponed for several weeks so that the billionaire American can consider the claims of a former employee about security on the social media platform.
“Isn’t justice (the extension) required a few weeks to look into this matter?” Alex Spiro, Musk’s attorney, asked at a court hearing in Wilmington, Delaware.
The former employee’s allegations surfaced last month, giving Musk, the world’s richest person, a new weapon to bolster what legal experts described as a long-running attempt to abandon the deal without paying a billion-dollar cancellation fee.
Peter Zatko, Twitter’s former head of security, said in a complaint to regulators that the company had falsely claimed to have a robust data security plan in place.
Twitter called Zatko’s allegations a “false narrative” and her lawyer charged Musk on Tuesday with using the allegations to cover up the fact that he rushed to buy the company without assessing the risks.
