An Emirati company today announced a new wind energy project in the UK.
Based in Dubai Lamprell has signed a contract with Moray West Offshore Wind Farm in Scotland. Under the deal worth more than $ 200 million, Lamprell will build parts of wind turbines for Moray’s offshore substations, the company said in a press release.
Lamprell’s headquarters are in Dubai. The company has additional offices in Sharjah and the Iraqi Kurdistan region. Lamprell provides construction, design and other services to the renewable energy and petrochemical sectors.
Because matter: The contract is the latest example of companies and government entities in the UAE pursuing renewable energy and green technology projects. Earlier this week, Abu Dhabi-based AD Ports Group hired a Chinese company to build an electric vehicle manufacturing plant. In August, the renewable energy company owned by the UAE sovereign wealth fund Masdar signed an agreement to develop wind and solar energy projects in Tanzania.
Wind energy is also growing slowly in the Middle East. Egypt is currently working on a major wind energy project in the Gulf of Suez, for example.
ScotlandThe socialist-led autonomous government prioritizes renewable energy and could present opportunities for other Gulf-based renewable energy companies.
Learn more: The deal between Lamprell and Moray follows the UK starting talks with the Gulf states on a free trade agreement in June.
