NATO calls on Putin to end the war
On the occasion of the anniversary of Victory Day against Nazi Germany, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to cease hostilities in Ukraine immediately.
Stoltenberg said on Monday said in a press statement to the German newspaper Welt, “I call again on President Putin on May 9 to end the war immediately, withdraw his troops from Ukraine, and commence peace negotiations… We stand firmly with Ukraine and will continue to assist the country in imposing its right to self-defense.”
Stoltenberg expects Putin to spread “lies again about NATO and the West as a whole” today.
Today, Putin delivered a speech to the nation during a military parade in Moscow on the occasion of “Victory Day.”
The NATO Secretary-General rejected Moscow’s accusations that the Western Defense Alliance was acting aggressively, saying, “for over seven decades we have been able to prevent war from our allies. NATO is a defensive alliance and the current crisis shows that it is essential for Europe and North America to come together in NATO to ensure peace and preserve the values of freedom and democracy”.
