Palestinians mark first anniversary of Sword of Jerusalem’s battle
Last May 10, Israeli fighter jets launched nonstop attacks against Hamas and other militant groups’ facilities, checkpoints, and subterranean tunnels. The airstrikes were launched in response to rocket attacks from Gaza into southern and central Israel.
Following weeks of clashes in East Jerusalem, either in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood against Israel’s decision to evict families from their homes, or in the old city near Damascus Gate and the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, known to Muslims as Al-Haram al-Sharif and to Jews as the Temple Mount, the Israeli war on Gaza broke out.
At least 260 Palestinians were murdered, including women, children, and militants, according to the Hamas-run Ministry of Health, and more than 2,000 were injured. According to government accounts, Hamas and other militant groups’ rockets killed 14 Israelis, including a soldier and two youngsters.
According to municipal authorities in Gaza, the days of severe shelling damaged 50,000 homes. More than 2,000 homes were either completely destroyed or severely damaged, making them uninhabitable. Infrastructure like water, sewage, and electricity was also damaged.
The Media Office of the Resistance Committees in Palestine, on Tuesday on the first anniversary of the Battle of Seif al-Quds mark the anniversary of this battle.
It said that the Battle of the Sword of Jerusalem, inspired us that lit up the way to freedom, victory and return to all of Palestine, from its river to its sea.
It added that this battle achieved qualitative and great victories, and we are still living in its shadows, and we continue fighting until our holy and sanctities are freed.
“The Battle of Sword of Jerusalem proved the unity and identity of Our people in the clashes fields in all its places,” it said.
The statement concluded that the “Battle of Sword of Jerusalem” imposed new equations and rules to deal with the Israeli occupation.
