Iran condemns deliberate killing of journalist Shireen Abu Aqleh
Iran strongly slammed Israel’s assassination of Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in the West Bank refugee camp of Jenin yesterday.
The targeting of Al Jazeera reporter Abu Akleh, “who was loyal to the cause of Palestine and the holy city of al-Quds (Jerusalem),” was criticized by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh in a press statement.
This “criminal act” by Israeli occupation forces, according to Khatibzadeh, is “concrete indication of the Israeli occupation’s] lack of commitment to the function and place of the press, media, and journalists in raising public awareness.”
He called international organizations, human rights organizations, and international media unions to launch an impartial investigation into Abu Akleh’s death and asked that Israel be held accountable for its crimes.
