France repatriates 35 kids, and 16 mothers from camps in Syria
“France today embarked on the return to the country of 35 French minors who were in camps in north-eastern Syria. This operation also includes the return of 16 mothers from these same camps, ”a report read, adding that the minors were handed over to child protection services while the mothers would face legal proceedings.
Human rights groups have long called on the governments of France and other Western countries to bring household the kids who were either conveyed to the territories in Syria and Iraq once held by the Islamic State (IS) group by their parents or born there during the years of fighting.
Hundreds of kids of French nationals are being held in Kurdish-run camps in northeast Syria where malnutrition and illness are rampant.
One of the greatest and most overcrowded is Al-Hol where children were detecting, “devastating levels of violence daily, leading to nightmares, psychological problems, and fear for their own lives”, according to a Save the Children report published in September 2021.
France called for its security concerns to be paramount, having suffered a series of jihadist aggression, including the November 2015 attacks on the Bataclan concert hall and other purposes around Paris that left 130 people dead.
