35 dead and 45 injured in a church fire in Egypt

Reuters on Sunday confirmed that 35 people were killed and 45 were wounded by a fire at the Abu Seveen Church in the Imbaba area, Giza governorate.

The Egyptian Ministry of Health said that it had taken 55 injured people to hospitals, while Health and Population Minister Khaled Abdelghafar quickly directed the provision of all medical and ambulance services to the accident sufferers.

30 ambulances were paid at the scene of the fire accident, 55 cases were transferred to the hospitals (Imbaba Al-Amin, Al-Aghouza), and cases of death are under handling.

The state of readiness in the governorates of Giza and Cairo was lifted, adding the availability of all blood groups and emergency medicines in all hospitals that received the injured.

The Ministry stated that the ambulance was informed of the fire at 8:57 minutes. The first ambulance immediately moved from the nearest position in the Imbaba airport, it arrived at the scene at 8:59 minutes, and then the rest of the vehicles arrived.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah A-Sisi said via Twitter, “I watch closely the consequences of the painful accident in the Church of El-Munaira in Giza governorate, I have directed all concerned state agencies and institutions to take all necessary measures, immediately to deal with this incident and its effects and provide all aspects of health care to the injured. I extend my sincere condolences to the families of the innocent victims who moved next to their Lord in a house of worship.”
