Beijing: “Our military will not stand idly by if Pelosi visits Taiwan”
China tightened its warning tone against Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan.
Beijing said on Monday that its military “will not stand idly by” if Speaker Nancy Pelosi visits Taiwan.
The latest warning was issued during a periodic briefing by China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ministry spokesman Zhao Li Jian said that because of Pelosi’s “number three” status, a visit to Taiwan, which China says it is affiliated with, “would have a significant political impact.”
Pelosi launched a four-nation tour of Asia to visit Singapore on Monday, amid major speculation that she could risk angering Beijing by visiting self-governing Taiwan.
