Hamas spokesman Mohamed Hamada said that the Israeli occupation is completely accountable for the consequences of its foreign minister Yair Lapid’s provocative visit to the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Bab al-Amud on Sunday, which he described as a “dangerous escalation.”
He added that Lapid’s tour to Bab al-Amud and the subsequent violent police raid on the same spot demonstrated Israel’s perseverance in carrying out harmful designs against Occupied Jerusalem and the Aqsa Mosque.
Lapid’s action was also regarded as “a provocation to the sensibilities of the Palestinian people and the Muslim country during the holy month of Ramadan,” according to the spokeswoman.
“We and our people have made an oath to guard Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque with all of our might and all of our means,” he stated emphatically.
A brutal Israeli forces raid in the Old City’s Bab al-Amud district injured at least 19 Palestinians after Lapid and other Israeli leaders entered the area, the police violence began.
