Palestinian elderly injured, six detained in Israeli raid near Jericho
A Palestinian elderly was bodily injured on Saturday and six other Palestinians were kidnapped by the Israeli army after the former were assulated by a group of Israeli settlers in Arab Mlehat area, west of the city of Jericho in the occupied West Bank, local sources said.
Hasan Mlehat, a local Palestinian activist, said that a group of Israeli settlers physically assaulted and beat up Palestinian shepherds while grazing their sheep in the area, wounding 64-year-old Mohammad Suleiman Mlehat and stealing a tractor for a Palestinian citizen.
He stated that an Israeli occupation force arrived at the scene and kidnapped six Palestinian citizens.
Settler violence against Palestinians and their property is a daily routine in the West Bank and is rarely prosecuted by Israeli authorities.
Settler violence includes arsons, stone-throwing, uprooting of crops and olive trees, raids on vulnerable houses, among others.
There are more than 600,000 Israeli settlers living in colonial settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
