Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Tuesday that early signals from peace negotiations with Russia were encouraging, but they had not stopped Russian missile launches.
In a late-night address, Zelensky also raised reservations about Russia’s commitment to dramatically curtail its military activities in some regions, stating that Ukraine’s defensive efforts would not be reduced.
Russia and Ukraine are holding peace talks in an Istanbul palace according to Zelensky, Kyiv notices no reason to accept the comments of certain Russian representatives.
“We can say that the indications from the discussions are favorable, but they don’t halt the bursts of Russian shells,” he said, adding that Ukraine can only trust real outcomes from the talks.
Earlier in the day, Russia agreed to scale back military operations in Ukraine’s capital and northern regions.
Despite this vow, Zelensky stated that the situation has not improved… the Russian army still has a significant capacity to continue strikes against our nation, and they will not lower their efforts.
Zelensky repeated that the withdrawal of the Russian military is required for any peace accord to succeed and that there would be no compromise on Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In addition, he called for stronger sanctions against Russia.
