17-month-old girl undergoes ovarian freeze!!!
A British baby girl is preparing to undergo complex medical treatment and a freeze on her ovaries, amid fears she won’t still be able to be a mum in the future after recovery.
British doctors intend to perform the procedure for the 17-month-old baby, Tallulah Cox, to avoid infertility, as she is close to undergoing medical treatment that leaves many side effects.
The British child will begin chemotherapy against brain cancer soon, and Tallulah Cox will become the youngest British ever to undergo ovarian freezing.
According to the British newspaper Mirror, the chemotherapy used to attack cancer cells is likely to destroy eggs.
The child’s parents, Zoe and Richard, initially believed that the child had only a minor stomach disorder and was then surprised by the malignant disease.
The child’s health deteriorated following her chickenpox, a rapidly transmissible viral infection that causes fever and rash.
The child underwent extensive examinations and was then sent to a hospital in Newcastle, where she was found to have a tumor in fluid-filled areas of the brain according to Sky News.
The mother reported the news of cancer was shocking and alarming, but the positive was to monitor the disease at a very early stage because the tumor was still the size of a grape.
The mother said saving her daughter from the disease was “the most important thing for her”, but she was grateful to the doctors for thinking about her future when she would become an adult girl and perhaps want to have children.
“I always dreamed of being a mum, and I think she would also want motherhood,” she added, while science currently allows the ovaries to be kept in the freezer for up to 30 years.
