U.S. Army v.s. Chinese Army… Who’s more powerful militarily?
On Wednesday, a Chinese newspaper revealed that Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan increased fears of a conflict between Chinese and US militaries.
“The U.S. military initially opposed Pelosi’s visit to prevent any skirmishes with China, which Pelosi herself stated when she said the military might have been afraid of shooting down our plane or something by the Chinese.”
“During the visit, the US Military Command deployed warships including the attack carrier Ronald Reagan in the South China Sea, as well as an aircraft carrier and three destroyers that routinely patrol the South China Sea and the Philippine Sea.”
“The live-fire maneuvers initiated by the Chinese army around Taiwan Island, their coordinates indicate that they are 20 kilometers off the coast of Taiwan.”
According to military experts, a military conflict between the world’s first and third most powerful armies would be a devastating war, which could lead the world to world war III.
The Chinese military, in anticipation of that visit, posted a video of its troops’ preparations on its Weibo social media account, which was captioned with the words “Prepare for war”.
Until next Sunday, China is also conducting military exercises in 6 areas in all directions of Taiwan Island, which it considered on Wednesday to be “amounting to an air and sea blockade of the island.”
According to observers, heightened tensions between Beijing and Taipei may require Washington to intervene as a third party in the military conflict to support its ally against China. What are the armies’ capabilities in the event of any confrontation? Who is more powerful militarily? According to Sky News.
U.S. Army
According to Global Fire Power, the US military ranks the armies of some 140 countries around the world as the world’s number one.
The United States of America has a population of 332 million, with a manpower of 146 million available for military service, and some 2.245 million troops, including 845.5 thousand reserve forces.
For military equipment, the United States of America has 13233 warplanes with 1956 fighters, 761 attack aircraft, and more than 950 military cargo aircraft along with 5436 military helicopters, including 904 attack helicopters, as well as 6100 tanks, 40,000 armored vehicles, 1,500 self-guns, 1340 field defenders and 1365 rocket launchers.
Washington’s naval fleet has some 490 sea objects, including 11 aircraft carriers, 92 destroyers, and 68 submarines, as well as 8 mini breakers, and plans to have 373 manned vessels and some 150 robotic vessels by 2045.
Nuclear warheads have 3,750 nuclear warheads, while the United States defense budget is estimated at $740 billion.
Chinese Army
According to statistics from the US website Global FirePort 2022, the Chinese military is ranked third globally and the Asian country has a population of about 1.394 billion.
Many of China’s armed forces also exceed 3 million troops, of whom 2 million are active in the army. 619 million personnel are “fit for military service”, and the age of recruitment is approximately 20 million per year.
The Air Force is ranked third globally with 3,285 aircraft, including 120 fighters, 371 attack aircraft, 912 helicopters, and 281 attacking helicopters, as well as other military pieces.
According to ground forces’ data, China owns 5250 tanks, 35,000 armored vehicles, 4120 self-fired artillery, 1734 rocket launchers, and 3160 rocket rigs.
The naval fleet is ranked first globally with 777 naval units, 2 aircraft carriers (and the third under construction), a helicopter carrier, 41 destroyers, 49 frigates, 70 cruisers, 79 submarines, and 152 patrol vessels.
China also has 350 nuclear warheads, including 204 long-range missiles launched from ground launchers and 48 on submarines, 20 “gravity bombs” dropped from aircraft, as well as thousands of intercontinental missiles.
The military continues to modernize its forces in an effort to overcome American technological superiority. According to the Pentagon, last year it launched an ultrasonic glider that circled the Earth at a speed of more than 6 thousand kilometers per hour, a weapon that Washington apparently does not possess.
The annual budget of the Chinese military, according to Global Fire Power, is estimated at $230 billion.
According to military expert Vladimir Igor, “Beijing, under the guise of the military exercises it has announced, may impose a complete naval and air blockade on Taiwan, stating that China possesses the military capabilities it qualifies to close the entire maritime area around Taiwan for the duration of the exercises.”
He adds: “With this blockade, no ships and even civilian vessels will be able to enter Taiwan’s ports, which is a blow to the island’s economy and stops global trade.”
“Washington is trying to implement its expansionist plans around the world by promoting the Chinese threat theory, and is trying to show China as a current and future challenge to its maritime power, which is part of its strategy as the main focus for imposing its maritime dominance around the world.”
