Italian young man infected with corona, monkeypox and AIDS
The 36-year-old began to suffer from fatigue, fever and sore throat nine days after returning from a trip to Spain. After 20 days, the pharyngeal swab for monkeypox remained positive.
As a result, he became the first person in the world to test positive for monkeypox, coronavirus, and HIV at the same time.
On the second of July, the man tested positive for the “Corona virus”, and a rash on his left arm began to appear in the afternoon of the same day. Small, painful blisters surrounded by a rash appeared on the man’s trunk, lower limbs, face and muscles the next day.
By July 5, the vesicles had spread further and developed into pustules, which made the man go to the emergency department of San Marco University Hospital in Catania, Italy, where he was transferred to the infectious disease’s unit.
After he was examined in the infectious disease’s unit, it was found that the man had monkeypox. The patient also performed several tests to detect sexually transmitted diseases, to prove that he had AIDS. After recovering from monkeypox and the “Corona virus,” the patient was discharged from the hospital on July 11, to be subjected to home isolation, as his skin lesions recovered after peeling off, leaving small scars.
Commenting on the patient’s “unique” condition, researchers said that this case sheds light on how the symptoms of monkeypox and the Corona virus overlap, stressing the need to know the details of the patient’s sexual habits for a proper diagnosis.
After 20 days, the pharyngeal swab for monkeypox remained positive, he added, revealing that these individuals may remain contagious for several days after symptom relief.
